The Curator
KENNY PNG (b. 1979)
Kenny Png’s pursuit of stories have led him to helm projects as diverse as National Geographic’s groundbreaking pilot series, “China From Above”, “Chineseness” (Discovery Channel) and even Singapore’s first MasterChef. He was also the first foreign director to film in the disputed tomb of Cao Cao, one of China’s most controversial figures from the era of the Three Kingdoms for History Channel’s “Mysteries of China”.
But his first love would always be music. He was one of the founding members of local post-rock darlings, In Each Hand a Cutlass as well as La’ Dies, the island’s first Mandarin gothic punk band. He played with underground metalheads, Meltgsnow and sessioned for the island's pioneering rap rock band, Chou Pi Jiang. He composed the music and sound design for Jean Tay’s Shape Of A Bird, staged at Esplanade Recital Studio as well as Wild Rice’s Building A Character (M1 Theatre Fringe Festival).... and many other indie films works and pieces. Today, he makes dark wave music privately under the moniker of One White Raven.
An avid photographer, Kenny is the co-author of two books, “On Happiness” (Math Paper Press) and “Requiem for the Factory” (Deleres Press) and is constantly attempting to update his little quirky blogs on travel and Singapore vintages.
